This is a coordinated effort that strengthens citizen participation and sustainable development in the Canton.
In Cuenca, the International Competence Center was implemented as part of Proposal 42 by the mayor of Cuenca, Cristian Zamora, with the goal of integrating expat residents of the Canton.
The project creates a space dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the local and expat communities, providing an opportunity to foster economic development, strengthen the learning of citizens from urban and rural parishes, and enrich cultural diversity.
The initiative, part of the 2023-2027 plan and the 101 Proposals of Mayor Cristian Zamora, also promotes social integration, cultural exchange, and the personal and professional development of participants.
The Center has already organized talks, workshops, and discussions on various topics, such as urban innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological skills, including:
Zumba classes led by expats for the local community.
Support for the “Dogs of Hope” emotional support dog training program.
A personal care workshop aimed at expat residents.
Integration of the expat community into the community workdays (mingas) promoted by EMOV.
A Pacari chocolate tasting where expats learned about the history and growth of the project.
The project provides logistical support for simultaneous English-Spanish interpretation, ensuring that everyone participates actively.
